Mahendra Singh Dhoni

Mahendra Singh Dhoni will lead the Indian Cricket Team at the Twenty20 World Cup in South Africa. In another development, the former star players trio of Harbhajan Singh, Virender Sehwag and Irfan Pathan who had been dropped from the side due to the bad showing at the ODI World Cup earlier this year have been recalled to the squad for the Twenty20 World Cup.

Further report in this article, Twenty20: Dhoni to lead, Sehwag included:

As expected, Mahendra Singh Dhoni was named captain for the shortest version of the game. He was a unanimous choice and was accepted as soon as his name was proposed; nobody else was even considered for the job. In fact, the One-day vice-captain was briefed two days ago itself.

Sehwag and Harbhajan were easy picks as virtually every selector wanted them back.

“They are match-winners who were going through a bad phase. They are playing well now and we feel that the team needs their services,” chairman of selectors Dilip Vengsarkar told journalists. Irfan Pathan, however, was a surprise choice as he is believed to be far from his best.

The justification: He won’t be required to bowl more than two overs in this over; he can bat at Number Seven and field too. The official word: “he is an all-rounder and will be handy in this version.”

Well this is good news.
